Training
All active members are certified to the level of EMT-B. Some have received additional training in specialized areas. These certifications and courses include as follows:
Vehicle Rescue Awareness—This course goes into great deal on the breakdown of newer vehicles. This would include information on Hybrids, Airbags, and other harmful mechanisms.
Vehicle Rescue Operations—This course is a more hands on after taking the Awareness class. This would include information and hands on practice on stabilization, cutting, spreading, airbags, the rams, and much more.
International Trauma Life Support—AKA BTLS This course is classroom and hands on activities on how to better treat the trauma patient. Including differences in pediatric patients, tell tale signs of internal injuries, and head trauma.
ICS-100, 200, 300, and NIMS-700—These courses are mandatory depending on your involvement in the Squad. These teach the EMT’s to be prepared for larger scale incidents and the proper use of the chain of command.
Ice Rescue Awareness and Operations—This is an in depth course on how to rescue patients trapped on the ice, those who have fallen through, and the affects of hypothermia. This is a classroom and hands on course.
CEVO, II, III—These courses help the responders understand how to safely operate the emergency vehicles. Some are classroom only and others in corporate both classroom and hands on.
Emergency Safety and Care Institute—Several of our active members are certified CPR instructors. We are able to keep our members up to date with new standards and provide the public with classes.
Bomb Drill—This was a drill set up by our rescue squad for practice on a larger scale mass casualty incident. This drill took place at our local Franklin Township Elementary School. It consisted of several children, teenagers, and adults, that participated as patients with different injuries and levels of severity.
Bus Drill—This was a mock drill with multiple patients simulating a bus accident, where all the patients had to be removed from the bus through the back emergency exit. The patients were local area children and an adult as the bus driver. They were made up with wounds and various injuries.
